Thanks to HB 143 (2011) which sought to address the state’s growing prison population, simple possession of a Schedule I drug usually results in presumptive probation and felony possession in deferred prosecution. These lighter penalties are often conditional on the defendant enrolling in a substance abuse treatment program.

While not technically an advocacy group, a small Louisville group called Psanctuary: The Sacred Mushroom Church practices the sacrament of psilocybin (the compound in magic mushrooms).
